RHEA Lou's banana cake

This recipe was found in an old church cookbook.

1 / 2 cup shortening
1 1 / 2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups flour
1 / 4 teaspoon baking powder
3 / 4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 / 4 cup buttermilk
4 ripe bananas
1 / 2 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, cream together shortening and sugar. Add egg mixture and mix until creamy.Mash bananas with a fork and add the creamy mixture. Add buttermilk and mix well. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Little by little, to the creamy mixture, beating well after each addition. Stir in chopped walnuts. Grease and lightly flour a pan 13 x 9 x 2 inch shoe. Fill batter into the prepared pan and bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Banana cake frosting

2 cups confectioners'Sugar
2 tablespoons butter
6-ounce cream cheese
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a bowl, beat together the butter and cream cheese. Add sugar and mix. Add milk to thin to the spread consistency. Stir in vanilla and mix well. Frost cake.
